Virgin Media O2 is launching commercial services on nexfibre’s XGS-PON full fibre network for the first time.

Consumers and businesses in a number of towns and cities across the UK will now connect through VMO2’s gigabit broadband services.

This represents the first time VMO2 has sold the new technology outside of the trail areas around Stoke, Salisbury and Wakefield.

Nexfibre is a joint venture established last year by Liberty Global, Telefonica and InfraVia Capital Partners.

Its rollout is enabling anchor tenant Virgin Media O2 to extend its fibre footprint to up to 23 million homes by 2028, around 80% of the UK.

Bernardo Quinn, CEO at nexfibre said: “We are investing £4.5bn to roll out our new network which will boost the UK’s digital economy.”
