BT has named the next 18 UK exchanges where it will stop selling legacy analogue copper-based phone and broadband services. This batch, Openreach’s tranche 13, represents 161k premises.

The stop sell will occur when over 75% of premises connected to an exchange can access ultrafast full fibre. Customers will then no longer be able to buy its old copper products.

This brings the total number of locations now notified for or actively under ‘stop sell’ to 846 exchanges covering a total of around 8m premises.

The statement says: “As we roll out our ultrafast full fibre network across the country, it makes no for us to keep lots of different old technologies running, it’ll be very expensive, replacement parts are no longer being made, and it won’t allow us to push forward with our plan.”
