Community Fibre has partnered with Islington Council to rollout out a custom-built network across the borough.

The altnet will look to pass 36,000 properties across the borough over the next three years. Planning surveys have already begun in St. Mary’s.

The build follows Community Fibre’s announcement that it is on track to double its network target in London and will pass 2.2 million homes and businesses by the end of 2024.

As the broadband provider accelerates across the capital, the ISP will aim to serve more than half of the 3.7 million homes in the city.

CEO Graeme Oxby said: “We believe that everyone should have access to the best internet to ensure growth and greater opportunities for all. Closing the digital divide is our priority.”

Cllr Una O’Halloran, Executive Member for Homes and Communities, added: “Fast, reliable internet is essential in our increasingly digital world and better broadband for council homes is an important part of our work to make Islington a more equal borough.”
